Electronic music : this multi-faceted music realm, home to various hybrid sub-genres and which gathers anonymous people all around the world. The influence that the synthetic sounds of electronic music has had on the music industry have even shaped some of rock & hip-hop music’s most avant-garde bands ; hybridization has seen trip-hop and kautrock merge over the years, giving birth to projects like that of the duo Cercueil – which is French for “coffin”. They already started performing on the underground scene more than ten years ago with their first album “Erostate” ; the duo’s enchanting voices and raw, dissonant rhythms made a comeback on the 4th of November with an EP named “Bad Posture”. Listen to it below !

Cercueil’s music is known to bewitch its audience. From the get go, the rhythms become hypnotic ; jerky and yet always on beat, the electronic variations of “Suchness”, coupled with a magnetic voice worthy of some major trip-hop and experimental rock bands like that of Dark Stares, Tricky or Dark Horses, take us to a place where colors are desaturated and dark peaks & valleys start to form.

This unfamiliar soundscape becomes more defined as we navigate through the EP’s tracklist ; “Bad Posture” takes place in the rock music realm, while “Silent Passenger” lets the experimental, textured and dissonant side take space. In short, the whole EP has us re-think our core beliefs about trip-hop & experimental rock music – and that is why we are not surprised to see Clivage, sub-label of Citizen Records aka Vitalic’s record label, have the duo release their EP with them ; if you thought you knew trip-hop, think again!

We will also let you (re)discover their album “Erostate” which had left a mark on this very avant-garde music aesthetic back in 2011.
