When we think of downtempo, deep techno, electronica or ambient music, many types of sounds come to mind. A track can easily go from dark and heavy basslines to light and luminous synthetic melodies; they eventually merge to make us travel. The same can be said about the work of art that is the first album of the young French producer, Texture Droite. It is called “Vibrant Pixel”, and is surprisingly aptly named. By being essentially digital and electronic, it explores all the possible and existing variations of electronica’s spectrum.

“Ideas appear, we ramble, we go from one idea to another, without knowing how or why, then we come back to the previous idea, by iterations, by cycles, without any real end or beginning.”

What we notice after listening to Vibrant Pixel is that the names of the tracks are carefully chosen, and they perfectly reflect the imagery of the sounds they contain. On “Hi Res Vagueness”, “Full Speed on the Wrong Lane” and “A Vibrant Touch Offfff”, we explore the rough edges of ambient techno, a world that is particularly well depicted in the latter. Its difference attracts us, the track reveals a unique universe in a very personal and intimate way. As the artist says himself, “the general idea of the title is a dreamy, contemplative state, a position of observation during which the world is agitated and comes alive… Then ideas appear, we ramble, we go from one idea to another, without knowing how or why, then we come back to the previous idea, by iterations, by cycles, without any real end or beginning”.

On “E.G. An Infrequent Gazing”, we now dive deep into the abyss of some dark ambient music. Each sound reflects shades of black and grey, shades that suddenly become visible to the naked eye.

Throughout the album, we were brought through darkness but we are transported to the other end of the spectrum with “Color Field Dancing” where we now reach bright canyons filled with light. Until now, we have been listening to every single detail of the album, this time Texture Droite offers us a break allowing us to step back and enjoy with admiration the beauty that is “Color Field Dancing”.

In short, “Vibrant Pixel” takes us through an imaginary world. A world that unveils under our eyelids as we listen to this album. Texture Droite is an artist that we will continue to follow closely. We will also keep an eye on his upcoming audiovisual live performances… And we will go see them when the world pandemic will be over !

The album is to be found on all streaming platforms as well as on our SoundCloud channel.
